    In the final analysis, low-rise buildings consistently out-perform mid- and high-rise buildings in terms of their cost, safety and livability. 

    Another advantage of lower buildings is that their occupants are able to closely monitor the street and hence exert more “territoriality “on the neighborhood. This makes the streets safer because more eyes on the street discourage crime.

     Veterans Administration has housing available for every veteran homeless on the San Vicente sidewalk. At the time of her October 7 post, there was 35% vacancy in the VA housing.

    At its next meeting on October 12, the Santa Monica City Council is expected to approve a five-year agreement with the OIR Group to facilitate the work of the new panel, including conducting policing investigations and developing recommendations for the council. The consulting firm will be paid a maximum $140,000 a year, according to city officials.

     Santa Monica has received 100 emerging housing vouchers from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which can be utilized as permanent housing subsidies for individuals who have been in the shelter system for three or more months.
